Aim to separate a solute from a solvent in a solution.

In science we did a distillation experiment and we separated the coke from the water is worked when we boiled the coke and it separated water from the coke and filled up in a different boiling tube.

Equipment - A solution of saltwater , conical flask , heatproof mat , a delivery tube and bung , Bunsen burner , tripod , gauze mat , retort stand , boss head and clamp , boiling tube. \
Method -
 1. set up equipment as shown in the diagram
2. add approximately 50 ml of saltwater into your conical flask
 3. light your Bunsen burner open the air whole and genitally push the Bunsen burner  under the tripod
4. heat the solution most of the solvent has been evaporated . Turn off the Bunsen burner

How does distillation separate two liquids.
To separate a mixture of liquids, the liquid can be heated to force components, which have different boiling points, into the gas phase. The gas is then condensed back into liquid form and collected. Repeating the process on the collected liquid to improve the purity of the product is called double distillation.

What are the two processes happening during this reaction.
The process of reactive distillation involves using the reaction vessel as the still. In this process, the product is usually significantly lower-boiling than its reactants. As the product is formed from the reactants, it is vaporized and removed from the reaction mixture.

how does distilation used in real life.
But chemists also use simpler physical methods, distillation and filtration, to separate mixtures.Distillation can be used to purify water, make alcohols, or separate petroleum into various components that range from natural gas to gasoline to tar.

Why do we use a saturated solution to grow crystals?
Crystals grow when the solution becomes supersaturated, meaning that there is too much sugar dissolved in the water. The extra sugar takes the form of crystals. To get a supersaturated solution you can either cool down the solution or let some of the water evaporate.

Yesterday we made sugar crystals.

Equipment:
Busen burner
Glass rod
gause mat
heat proof mat
tri pod
cup
popsicle stick
beakers
measuring cylinder

Ingredients:
250 g sugar
food colouring food flavouring
50 ml water

Method
Put your water on a boil then add your sugar little bit at time
then mix constantly until it becomes a clear yellow then  pour it into a cup dip your popsicle stick in water then cover it in your leftover sugar and put it in to the cup wait 1-2 weeks until you crystals then eat and enjoy.

Drama

Image result for shakespeare sayingToday we had the ugly Shakespeare company come to our school and they preformed a play called taming of the shrew it was about domestic violence. I really liked this play the actors were funny and they made the play seem really cool. They added some music that made the play feel alive.  The bit that made me really enjoy the play was how they interacted with the audience. The conflict between the two sisters (Bianca and caterina) made every one laugh, they were always fighting and bickering on about how caterina should just get married to whoever so her younger sister Bianca can get married so she isn't forever lonely.

What is a crystal?
A piece of a solid substance having a natural geometrically regular form with symmetrically arranged plane faces.

How can you make sugar crystals?
Dissolve the sugar in the boiling water
Add a few drops of food colouring and flavor Allow the solution to cool a bit before pouring it into your jar Pour the sugar solution into a jar Place the container somewhere it won't be disturbed

How is this separating a mixture?
When sugar is mixed with water it creates a homogeneous solution, meaning you can't see the individual particles, unlike when you mix sand with water. The sugar water is a solution because no chemical reaction occurs, but to separate it you need to create a chemical reaction by distilling the liquid.

Diluted experiment

Equipment:
pipette
Test tube
test tube rack
measuring cylinder
tweezers

Method:
Fill each test tube with 5 ml of water but the first one filled with 10 ml of water add on small purple crystal give it a little stir now the tube is concentrated.  Then add 5 mill from the first tube (the purple one) and add it to the second one and wait for it to dissolve fully next add 5 ml from the second tube and add it to the third tube and repeat till you reach the last tube this is called dilution.

Result:
In font of you you would have a ombre affect going down the line
of test tubes.

Definitions:
Concentration:
In chemistry, concentration refers to the amount of a substance per defined space. Another definition is that concentration is the ratio of solute in a solution to either solvent or total solution. Concentration usually is expressed in terms of mass per unit volume.

Dilution:
The action of making a liquid more dilute.
