Different filters
Activated Carbon Filters
These are also known as carbon filters or pre-filters and are generally responsible for removing larger particles like sediment and silt from your water. They work by attracting and absorbing these particles so they’re no longer present in the liquid that comes out of your faucet.
An activated carbon filter will also make sure the end result has less in the way of odour and tastes much better. This is because they reduce the amount of chlorine and other contaminants that can make your water smelly or just darn right unpleasant to drink.Reverse Osmosis
This type of filter is incredibly popular mainly because it has the ability to remove all sorts of contaminants that can be a danger to your health, as well as making sure the end result is clear and odour free.I know this sounds a little vague, so if you want to find out more, feel free to take a look at my section reverse osmosis water filter.Science
On the 22/2/19 we did a filtration experiment.
The experiment:
Can we filter dirty water with a number of substances?
Equipment:
Funnel
Chronicle flask
Small rocks
Saw dust
Cotton balls
filter paper
Dirty water
Method:
We got the rocks and put them in to the funnel then poured the dirty water into it which the rocks helped get the big clumps of dirt out.
We then put saw dust into a different funnel which helped get some of the dirty colours out of the water. Then we put a few cotton ball into the filter and poured the water into the funnel which helped get the water a bit clearer. Finally we put out filter paper which got it clearer then it started. I think we could of gotten the water even clearer if we tried a different technique.
Please feel free to leave comments!

THE GIVER- Review
This movie is about the haunting story of THE GIVER Jonas, a young man who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colourless, world of conformity and contentment. Yet as he begins to spend time with The Giver, who is the sole keeper of all the community's memories, Jonas quickly begins to discover the dark and deadly truths of his community's secret past. With this newfound power of knowledge, he realises that the stakes are higher than imagined - a matter of life and death for himself and those he loves most. At extreme odds, Jonas knows that he must escape their world to protect them all - a challenge that no one has ever succeeded at before.
Lets just say I enjoyed this move so much their aren't many ways I can put it in words but one reason is because because it was filled with the unexpected and would make my heart race during the most defenceless times of the movie.
I think the purpose of the movie was to make you feel beyond what you might think in you everyday life, and maybe this may be the future for out great, great, great, great grandchildren.
My favourite part of the movie was when Jonas discovered love, happiness, dancing, emotions and adrenaline.

Home Economics
On the 13th of February we made bread cases in practical.
We learnt how to Operate ovens safely and our way around the kitchen.
Savoury Bread Cases
Ingredients
- 2 slices of white bread
- 1t margarine
- 2T grated cheese
- 2T baked beans or creamed corn
- 1T finely diced celery or onion
Method
- Trim crusts off the bread
- Spread margarine thinly onto one side of bread
- Press into muffin tins margarine side down
- Fill each case with fillings (baked beans or corn, celery, onion, ham and cheese)
- Bake in oven until lightly brown and cheese is bubbling.
Safety and Hygiene:
- Identify two safety rule that you followed during the Practical lesson.
- Explain the difference between Hygiene and Safety and how you demonstrated good hygiene during the practical

What is Bacteria?
Bactria is a member of a large group of unicellular microorganisms which have cell walls but lack organelles and an organised nucleus, including some which can cause disease.
What does Bacteria need to survive?
Bacteria need water to dissolve the food they use for energy and growth. Energy sources such as sugars, starch, protein, fats and other compounds provide the nutrients Some bacteria require oxygen to grow (aerobes) while others can grow only in the absence of oxygen (anaerobes).
What are three examples of how to not spread bacteria?
Some examples of 'vehicles' are our hands, insects, droplets in the air, wind-blown dust, water and blood, which carries germs around the body. If germs can get into the body they can make a person very sick. Below are some of the methods by which 'vehicles' can help spread germs to people.
What does the term cross contaminated mean and what is its effect on us?
Cross-contamination is a cause of food poisoning that is often overlooked. It occurs when harmful bacteria are spread between food, surfaces and equipment. Cross-contamination can also occur if raw meat is stored above ready-to-eat meals. If juices from the meat drip on to the food below, it can contaminate it, and this can lead to food poisoning.

Science
Aim: To show that hydrogen gas is produced when a metal reacts to a acid
Equipment: Test tube, A boiling tube, A test tube, Bunsen burner, Wooden splint, A bottle, A piece of metal, Acid and Safety goggles.
Method:
1. Gather all your equipment into one place
2. Pour your acid in to the test tube
3. drop your piece of metal into the acid
4. light your Bunsen burner and turn it to the blue flame
5. lite your splint and stick it into the test tube that has the bubbling metal and acid
6. and then you should hear a popping sound
Hypothesis: I think the mettle will cause a bubbling sound and will kind of explode when I light the match
Observation: When we dropped the metal in to the acid it started to bubble and create hydrogen gas and when we lit the flint and stuck it into the test tube with the bubbling acid it started to pop quite loudly this was because hydrogen gas had combusted.
Conclusion: I liked this experiment cause we got to make loud sounds and got to light things on fire it was really exciting.

What is Whare Tapa Wha and how does it illustrates Hauora.
Te Whare Tapa Whā is based on the 4 dimensions (physical, mental and emotional, social, spiritual.) and how they all work together so the house is stable.
How did you participate and how did you contribute with your team.
We each made one wall and I made the whare we all came up with the design and we worked really well with each other.
How did you cope as a team and how do you relate to the others.
I coped really well with the others and thought we did well as a team.
