DTE Sphero

In DTE we have been learning how to program a sphero, a small mechanical ball that we can control on the ipad and even change the colour of the led lights and see the movement pattern by the touch of a button. The teacher assigned us a brief to use the spheros and showcase a learning activity and to include a program.
Our group decided to program our sphero through a maze set in hell, Dante's inferno, this is a maze cone in hell with stages of levels with how bad you deserved to be torchered based on the seven deadly sins. We are going to program our sphero to take us through the maze of Dante's inferno we will program it to talk to us and tell us some fact and who are on the levels of each stage.  The aim of this assignment was to show the teacher that we were capable of designing and teaching a pattern for the sphero.

Personal Reflection:
I personally reflect on all the work I have done this semester in DTE. I have learnt how to code a sphero and improved my skills of cooperating with my group and voicing my opinions.

Lighting and Colour

 https://sites.google.com/hornby.school.nz/rc-learning-site-2020/courses/film-study

Sexxxy Paragraph

In the film The Hunger Games by Gary Ross lighting is used effectively to show the difference between District 12 and the Capitol. In District 12 we see mainly brown, green and grey, therese are natural colours. In the Capitol we see artificial, vibrant colours. This makes us understand that the Capitol has the privilege of technological lighting. The director did this to show the theme Rich vs Poor. The power of the Capitol over District 12 is shown through the use of futuristic technology. The lack of opportunity in District 12 is highlighted by their poverty or their lack of modern technology. Lighting in each location can be compared to the possibility of Hope and Rebellion in each setting.

Team work in pe

Last week in pe we were playing sports and using them as a way to learn how to work as a team. I personally think I worked quite well with communication and respect, my team I worked with worked really well together and we all had respect and communicated well.

Costumes

Picture 1- Reaping Scene District 12

What is happening?- The people of district 12 are waiting to find out who will be reaped.

Describe- faded from repeated washing, mended, old, worn, dark colours so the coal doesn't damage

the light colour, at reaping they are in their best clothes, they are in their best clothes because they are

being watched by the Capitol and other districts, don’t want to look as poor as they are. Boys outfits-

button up collar shirts, suspenders, trousers/shorts. Girls- dresses or skirts, length at knees but not

longer. Hair is tidy. NO accessories- can’t afford, not practical.

Effect on the viewer- they are poor, not enough money for more than the basics. They want to be seen

as equals, respectable not as dirty coal miners.

Directors Purpose- to show the difference between the Capitol and the other districts, Capitol has

wealth- privilege- their clothing is nicer, the more available and can get clothes that fit them properly.

Techniques- camera angle- wide shot which shows lots of people crammed in, high angle shot which

makes the subjects seem weak and vulnerable- emphasises the power of the Capitol over the Districts

Picture 2- Arrival in the Capitol

What is happening? The capitol residents are waiting for the tributes to arrive.

Describe- colourful, bright, amiculate, exotic, co-ordinated, variety, Women- dresses, different styles but

on same bright colour palette, Men- suits, skirts, Accessories- dyed dogs, headwear/hats, handbags,

gloves, earrings, make-up, accessories aren't limited to one gender e.g men have long eyelashes.

Effect on the viewer- that they are wealthy- not poor, they have privilege- born into wealth and don’t

have to worry about reaping/working.

Directors Purpose- to highlight the luxuriousness of the capitol.

Techniques- setting- light, modern architecture, stones, metals, steel, fresh, new, futuristic.

Sexxxy Paragraph

In the reaping scene, costumes are used effectively to show ‘rich vs poor’ . In this ase ‘rich vs poor’

means the privileges afforded to people in Panem based on their district. This is demonstrated by the

clothing worn by the residents of District 12 during the annual reaping. The clothes are uniform like, well

worn and bland colors. The boys wear button up collar shirts and shorts or trousers whilst the girls wear

skirts or dresses. These are examples of their best clothing which tells us that they are poor and are

limited to what they can access. This makes the audience think that although they are poor and can

only afford the basics they want to be seen as respectable by the Capitol and other districts not just as

coal miners. This was done to show the difference between the Capitol and the other districts- the

Capitol has wealth and privilege whilst the people in the district have to make do. This worked well with

the use of camera angles. In this shot a high angle wide shot is used to show us that the people of

District 12 are weaker and more vulnerable under the power of those in the Capitol. This can be

juxtaposed to the use of costumes in the Capitol where we see ‘rich vs poor’ through the extravagance

and luxuriousness of the citizens' costumes.

Textiles

In textiles we have been learning about commercial patterns, me and my group of friends chose to make skirts. We are making miniskirts using the commercial patterns that our teacher is providing, so far we have traced the commercial pattern onto paper and our next step is to trace them onto a piece of fabric.

Workshop 1: Themes And Ideas

Workshop1: Unpacking themes and ideas

  • Rich vs Poor
  • Hope and Rebellion
  • Struggle for power
  • Power of Propaganda
Rich vs Poor
Poverty, Power, Privilege

Rich- Lots of money, More opportunities, privilege, power
Poor- Less opportunities, no power, less money, disadvantaged

Definition: Theme of 'Rich vs Poor'
It is more than just money, it is about who has more power, privilege and opportunities.

Rich:
- President Snow, District 1, Caesar, Capitol.
- Capitol- dont get reaped for the hunger games, Food- variety, plenty, excessive.
-Clothing- ccleaner, brighter, new outfit everyday, privilege of choice to co-ordinate what they wear they have choice.
-Buildings- bigger, different materials, not worn down, architecture is moderen, example of power and privilege.
-Technology- more advanced, they have airships, trains, they put ina tracking technology. Medical technology- blood scanners, healing balms.
-Children- get presents, get to play, have to work, don't worry.

Poor:
- District 12, District 11
- District 12
- Buildings, broken, not secure, holes in roofs, made from wood, small, don't have access to materials to make anything to better, dont have alot of electricity.
-Clothing, bland, not a lot of variety, old style, Boys best outfits- broken shirts, button up, trousers/shorts/suspenders, shows us that their clothes don't always fit properly, hand me downs, Girls best outfits- dresses, shirts/skirts, not good fit. Coal miners- black, grey, dark colours don't show as much dirt.
- Technology,  medicines- we dot n see any, we do see sick people, shows privilege of being healthy
- Transport, walking, electric fence doesn't work- not enough power.
- Food, not enough scarce, hunting for it, rations, put your name into the reaping for extra food.
- Children, they have to work, no time to play- can play but pushing sticks in mud, scared being reaped for the hunger games, not a lot of choice for future jobs- most will be coal miners.

Sexxxy paragraph

In the 'Hunger Games', Setting is used effectively to show the theme 'Rich vs Poor' is more then just money it is about who has power privilege and opportunities. For instance, we can see the idea of privilege reflected in the physical environments of District 12 and the Capitol. n district 12 the buildings are broken down and not secure whereas the building in the capitol show modern design, variation in materials and are built on a grand scale. This makes the audience think about the differences in wealth and power between the two locations. District 12 has nothing whilst people in the Capitol are safe and secure in their advanced buildings. The purpose of this was to show that Katniss Everdeen has come from a place of less privilege and power so her success in the games is very unlikely. Coinciding with this is the use of colour. In District 12 are lots of browns and greens whilst in the Capitol we see a futuristic palette of metallic, greys, blacks and silvers. The use of settings and colour effectively show us the imbalance of privilege between those living in places like District 12 and the Capitol.

English

The Hunger Games: A Lesson on Global Poverty | The Borgen ProjectIn the hunger games there are 12 districts divided  1 being the richest 12 being the poorest  although in the real world we aren't divided by actual districts, we could use that as a metaphor in the real world because the rich and the poor are divided by the places the live or the things the do for a living. In Panem, wealth is heavily concentrated in the hands of the rich, particularly those people living in the Capitol and certain of the districts, and the result is a huge disparity between their lives and the lives of the poor.

Hamilton- The musical

What is Hamilton about?
One that tells the story of forgotten American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and his ascent out of poverty and to power against the backdrop of the American War of Independence.

What is the style of the show?
Hamilton is not like any other musical instead of talking then breaking into song. It rapps at a fast tempo and has more of a up beat.

One character that I liked.
I like King George lll i really liked the way the words flowed out of his mouth and i really like the outfit. I also liked him because i knew him from another show.

What do I think?
I really liked the musical and how it was really up beat and modern it is definitely my favourite musical.

trolley cart scenario

The Trolley Problem: A Thought Experiment That Tests Our Morality ...Is it better to harm many people in order to save one or is it better to harm one person in order to save many people? The trolley cart scenario is a very well known conundrum that different people have different perspectives and opinions on.
If you were in a trolley cart and the carts brakes suddenly wouldn't work and you were going at a very high speed would you if you were given the opportunity pull the lever and switch tracks and save one person but it would result in you harming many others or would you save many others and it would result in you harming one what would you do?

Many people say that they would sacrifice one person in order to save many others. If we were to change the conundrum slightly and say that there were 5 strangers and  a close friend would you still harm your close friend in order to save 5 people or would your opinion change depending who it was?

For example, think of yourself as a doctor. There are five people that need organ transplants, one needs a heart, one needs a liver, one needs a kidney, one needs a lung and the other needs a pancreas without the transplant they would die. You happen to have a very unwell patient in the next room that has a perfectly healthy heart, liver, kidney, lung and pancreas would you if you were given the opportunity would you sacrifice that one unwell patient in order to save the five that need the transplants or would you keep the one person alive and let the five that need the transplant die?

For my mum i made chicken drumsticks with a couscous salad.
First I marinated the chicken  drumsticks with soy sauce, garlic, brown sugar, ginger and a little bit of chili. then i let them marinate for a hour or two, i would've liked to marinate them for longer but then i wouldn't of completed them in the correct time frame. After i marinated them i started to cook them and after they cooked for around 30 mins i put the stir fry veges in a pan and began to fry them while the couscous was cooking. I cooked the veges until they looked the right color and texture.

When i was plating the dish i decided to shape the couscous into a mold so the presentation would look better, and then laid the drumsticks beside it on a diagonal. I served the meal with a nice cold glass of lemonade then we ate it and my mum reviewed me.

My mum review:

Tonight for dinner Keira served me marinated chicken drumsticks with a warm vegetable and couscous salad.

Presentation
9/10
It was very well presented with the salad molded into a pile. Looked very small on the plate though as 3/4 of the plate was empty. Would probably have given 10/10 if it had been served on a smaller plate.

Marinated chicken drumsticks
7/10
The marinade had a very nice flavor and was well balanced. It is a shame the chicken wasn't marinated for longer as it really only flavored the skin and not the chicken meat. The chicken was well cooked and not dry. The chicken skin was soft, i would have preferred it to be crispy/caramelized.

Warm vegetable and couscous salad
10/10
The vegetables were nicely prepared. They still had a slight crunch just the way I like them. The cous cous was well cooked, beautifully seasoned and the grains separated well. The addition of the citrus soy dressing tied the salad nicely to the chicken.

Overall it was a nice dinner but could have been better if Keira put more effort into managing her time.

Matariki

Each sister represents something Waiti is connected to all freshwater bodies and all food sustained in them. Waita is associated with ocean and food sources within it. Waipuna-a-rungi is connected to everything that grows within the soil to be harvested or to be gathered for food. Tupu-arangi is connected with everything that grows up in the trees like fruit and birds. Ururangi is associated with the wind.

Matariki should have its own holiday because i celebrates the maori new year. The maori culture is one of or many cultures and we should embrace it.

The day after new years is useless its on 2nd of January and is a day off for the general population, schools and businesses. I don't see why we need a day off for every one if there's labour day.

Apple Crumble

In cooking today we are making apple crumble our group added too much cinnamon so we don't know if that will overpower the rest of the ingredients but we will have to find that out when we eat it. we are going to add icecream on the side to add some extra flavour.

The cinnamon was very overpowering but the ice cream both helped with the temperature and the overpowering cinnamon. We left it it the oven fr 15 mins.

Unwind

3 Synonyms for Dystopia

- Hellish
- Pandemonium
- Anti utopia

Antonym for dystopia is Utopia (the perfect world)

Which dystopian novels have your read?
I have read the giver which is really a utopia but its so perfect that its actual bad.

How many dystopian novels can you name?
The giver, The hunger games, tomorrow when the war began.

What are some key elements that you notice when you read a dystopia?
Things  i find that dystopian novels have in common are they are usually based on some kind of war or battle or they include being killed at a young age, these are just based off of ones i have read.

Examining the cover.

How do you think the story will be written?
I think it would be written in a futuristic way.

Why do you think the story is entitled as it is?
I think that unwind is the key concept of the novel and will be to refereed to repetitively.

Where do you think the story will take place?
I think that the story will be set in the future and maybe in a small town with few people.

What time period do you think the story is written?
I think that this novel will be set far in the future.

Exploring the blurb:

What do you already know about pro life and pro choice groups? What do these terms mean? Is it an issue you have thought about?
I don't know anything about them. Pro-life mean opposing abortion and euthanasia and Pro-choice means understanding that abortion is a choice and letting the women chose whether or not she will get one.

What do you know about organ donation?
I don't know much but i know that you can chose to be one and put it on your drivers licence so if you die at the scene and they get to you soon enough and your organs are in good condition then they can donate them to someone that needs them.

Can you make a connection with the language used to describe this place, and other places people have been sent historically?
I know that o the past people have been killed and used for their organs but back then i dont know what it was called.

What religious connotation does the word harvest evoke?
That the people who believe god are most likely going to believin the harvest.

The term living in a divided state is  really a euphemism for what? Can you think of other common euphemisms? Why do people use euphemisms?
I think that the term living in a divided state is really a euphemism for they are actually dying. I think euphemisms are a way for letting people down softly.

What is the definition of legal?
Permitted by the law, it is something you are allowed to do according to the law.

What is the definition of ethical?
Knowing right from wrong and choosing the right choice in certain situations.

Do you believe that because something is legal it is also ethically or morally right?
No, because just because the law may say its the right thing to do doesn't mean that it is.

Can things that are ethically sound ever be illegal? Provide examples.
Yes, the government may not have thought of everything at the time.

Can you think of examples in history that support your ideas? Provide examples.
Euthanasia, its illegal but i believe that it is ethically right because it is considered a good death.

1. I think that people have just thought about it and made up their own version of what happens and then it goes around.

2. Telling a story about 1 person can be pretty hard because you have to think of a lot of things that wont make the story boring so i think 3 is just the right amount so you don't run out of ideas.

3. I don't get the whole concept of being a tithe, but in my opinion i don't think anyone should be unwound no matter what there religion is.

4. Definitely not just because her parents didn't want her that shouldn't determine whether she should live or die.

5. The fact that they had planned to go on a vacation the day after their son had been unwound is sickening, their oldest child is dead and it all their doing.

6. I think that pastor Dan told Lev to run because they had a bond, he had known him since birth and he obviously didn't want to see him get unwound.

1. In unwind there is an urban legend that goes around about a kid named Humphrey dunfee, His parents decided that they wanted to get him unwound and after doing so they really regretted it and so they went on a killing spree killing everybody that had a piece of Humphrey Dunfee.

2. I feel that nurse Greta sentence has a stronger meaning and I personally think that her argument is stronger. To change the law before changing human nature is wrong because to change the law you must first change human nature.

3. Storking a baby gave her a second chance and she knew that she would've been weighing the child down if she had of kept it at least she dropped it off at a house in a nice neighborhood which showed that she kind of cared about the wellbeing of the child.

4. I don't think it does just because the mother didn't want it doesn't mean someone won't who are we to judge the value of child, The child may grow up thinking that he or she is worthless but he or she are not.

5. I mean giving birth automatically make you their biological  other but to be a mother you have to act like a mother, give your child what they need, support your child in everything they do or want to do, Just like you could live in a house but i could not be a home.

6. They haven't known each other for long but they just seem to click. They are total opposites but yet the seem like the perfect pair. Conner has street smarts and Risa is more school smart, Conner is very protective and defensive where as Risa Chill and Conner is antisocial whereas Risa is a social butterfly.

7. To lev it was a blessing to have 9 brothers and sisters Whereas with Conner had 3 older brothers and sisters he had been storked before which ended in his parents restorking as well as the whole neighborhood and it ended in the tragic death of an innocent baby.

8. It shows us that he has initiative and is a very caring person to take in a random baby because he knew it wouldn't be loved in the home it was storked at.

9. Pastor Dan

10. Roland was sent to be unwound because he was a troubled kid, Mai was sent to be unwound because her parent were trying for a baby boy and when they finally got one they decided they didn't want her anymore where as the most tragic of them all (In my opinion)Hayden. His parents had just had a very messy divorce and had spent a very long time fighting over which one would get to have him, And then they just decided to send him to be unwound. They loved him so much they fought over him for ages and then they just turn their back on him.

11. Roland has Tiger shark tattoo but Connor likes to wind him up and calls it a dolphin.

1. I think it gives Lev his own unwind story, when they all met, Connor and Risa already had a story so this could be a way of giving Lev one.

2. When Cy-fi was storked his dads were really happy and then their was a big war, the Heartland war which the government decided that it was illegal to get married to the same sex and so they got mmarried.

3. Cy-fi recieved a brain from an unwind and he is getting memories from Tyler-the unwind and the reason he  might be acting differently could be the unwind coming through his mid and body.

4. He keeps receiving memories so he goes to jopling to see them and to beg not to be unwound.

5. If he manages to hold in his anger around Roland then Roland will get annoyed that he isn't getting a reaction and he can use that to his advantage in the future.

6. Yes, ill usually try to think about something funny or will think of the consequences sometimes it helps but sometimes it doesn't.

1. it tells us that he needs to survive so he's willing to do everything in his power to do so. We can tell that he has changed due to desperation.

2. Obviously if i had the choice i would want to live but when it comes to answering the question i wouldn't want to be either. With unwinding  your parents or a staho are signing you off which gives you the feeling of being unwanted, But i guess a positive of being unwound is your parts have a purpose and they could be given to someone that could do something great. Where as with being dead you just die like no one knows where you go and i just think that it's something i don't want to happen.

3. I think that technaaly your still alive because your body parts are still living but but you physically and emotionally as a person is dead because you don't exist anymore i guess.

4. Well as we already know Cy-ty has a unwinds brain, So he was behaving like that because that's what the brain of the unwind was controlling. some of the things he did were he was remembering hings from his past and he went to an ice cream shop and could taste the unwinds favourite flavour it also like the unwind took over his body.

5. He had dug little holes next to his pets grave and they were filled with stolen jewelry.

6. It shows us that lev can be really caring and thoughtful and he really does like to help people. His parents behavior i didn't really get what was going on.

1.  Risa tells one of the goldens that she doesn't mind what job she does, she just wants to get things along with so she gets assigned dishwasher. Until a boy comes along with a bloody nose and she kindly assists him and then she was upgraded to medic.

2. Because he thinks the the admiral is using them.

3.  He suggests to connor that when the kids go off to the jobs they are going off to the harvest camps and being unwound for the admirals personal use.

4. Lev has changed a lot. He now has long blonde hair and a bad guy vibe to him  he is no longer in his tithing whites but in ripped jeans and a dirty red t-shirt, His personality traits have obviously changed as well like hes no longer a goody to shoes but more of a bad boy with a hardened vibe.

6. his repairing things but especially for his fights, one way or the other if he loses or wins he always resolves a problem.

7. The goldens were suffocated in a crate, they were locked in crate 2933 and died from lack of air.

8. he intimidates and manipulates people into liking him and thinking that he is a good person and a leader.

9. The unwinding bill came in because alot of babies were getting dumped and dying so they decided to make unwinding a thing so that the kids aren't technically dying but divided in to another state so they were still useful.

10. I think that there should be an even amount of generation like at least one person from each generation so that they can share their perspective, because all generations think differently.

11. Lev Volunteers to work on a oil pie line, the coldest and most brutal place on earth.

12. Emby has his left lung

13. I think that he changes the narrative to give another perspective on the story and his character, we don't really know much about roland so this was a great way to let us find more out about him.

14. Cleaver was beaten to death and this is when we find out that he had something to do with the murder of the goldens.

15. he doesn't want a transplant and the nurse was blown away by his decision.

16. He calls the juvey cops because he wants connor and risa to be found out and to be unwound he then makes a plan up in his head that he will barter for his freedom he offers the juvey cops the kids in the graveyard for his freedom but to his surprise the juvey cops already knew about the whole corporation.

1. for them emotionally it would be nerve racking but they were never meant to know that eachother were there but that obviously failed. there are two groups the terribles and the tithes which the terribles get treated way worse than the tithes as if they are animals.

2. 99.44% has to be used because there are obviously the appendix which are useless.

3. the chop shop. because you literally getting chopped.

4. because he is a tithe

5. emotions mainly anger and sadness but roland was going to kill connor but he doesn't have the gut to and he wasnt that kind of person which proves that he didn't have anything to do with the goldens death.

6. he was recruited by cleaver into a group to get justice for those that died in crate 2933.
